The Utrecht saxophonist / composer Gijs Hendriks (Utrecht, february 26, 1938) debuted in the mid fifties as a jazz musician in a club for American soldiers in Frankfurt. He played in Boy's Big Band, was as a baritone saxophonist for years the most important musician of the Vara Dansorkest and played in different situations with colleagues such as Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster and Johnny Griffin. His playing is rooted in the bop, but his reference is broader. Since the late sixties Hendriks works almost exclusively with his own groups, the Construction Company and the Quartet, for which he annually writes new compositions and arrangements

Thanks again Brian, first (and last) time I saw Kessler It was at Utopia's club rue de l'Ouest in paris, long time ago ! He was in his own inner circle ! Impressive. I'm curious to hear him again here.

Thanks Brian & bedank Peer.
Did not know Gijs Hendriks. Actually i knew little about Dutch jazz untill recently buy my knowledge has improved significantly thanks to Peer's Dutch Jazz blog. For reaons I do not much understand, Dutch jazzers rarely worked in Belgium in my younger days (apart from Jack Van Pol)

Brian, your blog is a tresure trove, too bad that RS is such a pain to use
